Vamos to grab Ramos!

Player Notes: In case you missed the memo on Saturday, Rex Brothers (34%) is closing games in Colorado, go get him. Be ready to move on Casey Fien (1%) once Glen Perkins (85%) is traded. We got a timetable for Christian Yelich (3%), Marlins’ management says late July early August at the latest. Brandon Beachy (37%) looked good in his rehab start on Friday and is expected to only need one more rehab start before being called-up. Danny Salazar (6%) is an interesting option in Cleveland, currently inactive but should be back in the next week or two. He’s worth a look in deep leagues, ditto for Jarred Cosart (5%) in Houston who should be back with the club in the next week or two. Wil Myers (62%) is turning into the stud we thought he’d be, and should be at least 80% owned. And Jesus Montero is 17% owned… um what? Did 17% of you stop playing? Here’s what else I saw in Fantasy Baseball yesterday. All ownership percentages are from Yahoo!

Waiver Help:

Wilson Ramos (10%): DNP. Since coming off the DL, Ramos is 12-38 (.316) with 2 doubles, 2 HR, 11 RBI and maybe best of all, only 5 Ks. At only 10% owned he’s probably available in your league and I’d easily add him over: Salvador Perez (71%), JP Arencibia (50%), Jarrod Saltalamacchia (33%), and Ryan Doumit (32%) without blinking, and would seriously consider him over Miguel Montero (54%), AJ Pierzynski (60%), and evenCarlos Santana (97%). But, I’d try to trade Santana to one of the teams ranked in the bottom half of your league first.

Miguel Gonzalez (33%): DNP. Gonzalez has only allowed 3 runs combined in his last 3 starts and really hasn’t had a bad game all year except on May 31st against Detroit when he gave up 5 runs. His total inning count is low and the Orioles figure to be strong offensively the rest of the year. I’ve had first-class tickets on this train for awhile, you should join me.

Felix Doubront (21%): DNP. Doubront has stepped up his game, winning his third consecutive start against the Yankees on Friday pushing his overall ranking to 93rd in the last 30 days. It’s possible the Yankees are turning into a quality stream option for opposing pitchers but Doubront has been solid nonetheless. Considering the Red Sox have a good shot at finishing in first place I like his chances to finish strong.

Wily Peralta (12%): ND, 8.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 7 K, 2 BB. When people complain about their pitching to me it’s hard to have sympathy for them when Peralta is sitting there, only 12% owned, hasn’t given up a run in 5 of his last 7 starts, is ranked 45th overall in the last 30 days, threw a complete-game shutout against Cincinnati, has 3 quality starts in his last 3 games, and has 26 Ks in his last 29.1 innings. Meanwhile Jesus Montero is 17% owned. Seriously, you don’t find that as horrifying as I do?

Justin Smoak (10%): 2-5. Rumor has it that James Loney brought Smoak to a magical wishing well that fixes baseball swings. Somehow (PEDs), he’s been an elite first basemen since coming back to the team. 28-82 (.341) 12 R, 6 doubles, 5 HR, 13 RBI. I can’t explain it (PEDs) I just tell you what you need to know. At-bats don’t look like they’ll be a problem when Michael Morse returns either.

Brad Miller (6%) 2-5, R, 2 RBI, BB. Since his call-up, guess who the 10th best shortstop has been? Better than Elvis Andrus (90%), Starlin Castro (89%), Jimmy Rollins (89%), Martin Prado (87%), Jhonny Peralta (73%), and many more high-profile names. I’m not necessarily saying to drop Andrus for Miller, but there has to be a place on more rosters for this guy than 6%.

Lonnie Chisenhall (4%): DNP. I hope you picked him up when I told you to two weeks ago. In the last 30 days he’s ranked 136th: 23-74 (.311) 9 R, 8 doubles, 3 HR, 14 RBI. Oh, but you probably prefer having Pablo Sandoval (93%), Aramis Ramirez (77%) and Todd Frazier (69%) contributing nothing.

Henry Urrutia (3%): DNP. The Orioles’ called up Urrutia to DH for them on Saturday and will look to keep that spot in the lineup the rest of the year. ESPN’s Keith Law says he has a great approach at the plate and has a good-looking swing. ESPN’s Jim Callis ranked Urrutia 2nd on his prospect list over names like Castellanos and Bogaerts. In 15 games in Triple-A he’s batting .367 with 7 HR and 37 RBI. I’m rooting for him, the game needs more Henrys.
